Why choose Boccia England as your corporate Charity of the Year?

We are passionate about boccia

Together with our corporate sponsors, we're dedicated to changing lives through the disability sport, boccia. By creating opportunities to play boccia at all levels we help children, young people and adults to improve their resilience, self belief, communication skills, physical and social skills, and help them feel more integrated into their local communities.

..

We share the same goals and values

Boccia England is the national governing body for the disability sport, boccia. Our work includes the promotion and development of the game. For around half our regular players, boccia is the only sporting option available to them.

With your help we can:

  • Tackle inequalities and provide activity for disabled people, as well as expanding our focus to reach more from ethnic minority communities, and women and girls.
  • Build on our response to Covid-19 to further improve access to boccia.
  • Continue to innovate and adapt our activities to ensure there are flexible and appropriate opportunities to participate in the game.
  • Develop our talent pathway for players, coaches and volunteers.
  • Raise awareness of boccia and the work of Boccia England across new audiences and supporters.

..

What can your staff do to support us during the year?

Volunteering: Your employees can make a real difference to people’s lives. Whether helping out at a competition for one day, or becoming a more regular club volunteer, they will see the impact through the joy and sense of determination on the faces of the disabled athletes, and the pleasure this gives their families and wider support networks.

Boccia England organises an annual programme of competition weekends across England, and we welcome help with tournament stewarding, timekeeping, administration and (after some training) refereeing. Boccia clubs provide ideal opportunities for local volunteering; you could even start a club as Irwin Mitchell has done. We also run five boccia talent academies in Newcastle, Sheffield, Gloucester, Hatfield, and Surrey, so there are plenty of engagement points for your company.

Fundraising: Boccia England is a charity and relies on grants, sponsorship and donations to meet its goals. We are also creative in the ways we look to fundraise, and recently launched ‘Tea Break – brew-up & bake for Boccia England as a fun way to gather staff, family and friends over tea and cake. During the charity year, you could host a seasonal Tea Break (we have resources you can use), encourage staff to meet socially out of hours, and invite family and friends too.

Your company can host a boccia tournament with the support of Boccia England staff and player volunteers, or encourage challenge events – whether physical like running, cycling, or hiking – or sedentary such as a silent auction.

Whatever you decide to do, Boccia England can provide guidance as well as practical resources like T-shirts/vests, collection buckets and bunting!

..

What impact can you make?

By supporting Boccia England you will be joining us on a journey to grow something special - a sport that breaks down barriers, challenges pre-conceptions and changes lives. We are proud that boccia is played by over 54,000 people but we want to take the game further.

..

Choosing Boccia England as your charity of the year, and raising the following amounts could allow us to:

£500: Support players and volunteers at grassroots level by holding a series of webinars to enable boccia club development.

£5,000: Provide an entry-level competitive sporting experience for 70 disabled people by running a regional round of our pan-disability Heathcoat Cup competition.

£9,000: Enable 12 of our most talented athletes to attend one of our five academies; providing training camps, high-level coaching, and support from a sports psychologist.
