Volunteers are the life-blood of a boccia club. Whether they coach, are part of the committee, or support with the everyday running of the club, they play a vital role in its success.

On this page, you’ll find a list of current volunteering opportunities. If there isn’t an opportunity local to you listed, please contact your local club directly – see our Club Finder.

If you’re a club lead looking for new volunteers, please see the resources on our Clubs and Groups pages. You'll also find template volunteer role descriptions for clubs, which detail individual roles and responsibilities on our Club and Groups Resources page.

Club Cotswold Crusaders Boccia Club
Role Boccia Assistant to support coaches and/or players during sessions
Venue Leisure at Cheltenham, Tommy Taylors Lane, Cheltenham GL52 4RN
Role Description

Our club provides boccia coaching and recreational boccia activities for players of all ages and abilities. The sessions are led by qualified boccia coaches, supported by volunteers to help the coaches deliver activities and assist the players as needed.

We would welcome new helpers to attend our regular Friday club sessions (5pm - 7pm) and assist in setting up and clearing away equipment and generally running the sessions.  No boccia experience is needed and if you are unfamiliar with the sport, you would learn how to play the game and then either assist the coaches to deliver the sessions or assist the players to take part in them fully.

For example, you might work with a small number of players to deliver a boccia activity set by the coaches or work with an individual player to help develop particular skills under the direction of the coaches.  You could assist an individual player during a coach-led session to help them get the most out of the session e.g. provide encouragement and motivation, support with following instructions or preparing the balls for play and picking up balls at the end of games/activities. You could learn how to use a boccia ramp and how to act as ramp assistant for a player who relies on a ramp to propel the balls.

There is scope to get as fully involved with the club as you like, including training as a coach or official; representing the club at community and school sports events and boccia competitions; becoming involved with the organisation and governance of the club (see related advert for Admin Assistant volunteering roles).

Club Cotswold Crusaders Boccia Club
Role Admin Assistant to support the committee running the club
Venue Leisure at Cheltenham, Tommy Taylors Lane, Cheltenham GL52 4RN
Role Description

Our club provides boccia coaching and recreational boccia activities for players of all ages and abilities. The sessions are led by qualified boccia coaches, supported by volunteers to help the coaches and players. The club is run by a small committee that manage the finances, membership and governance of the club.

We would welcome new helpers to assist our committee with some of the admin tasks associated with running the club. You would be welcome to attend sessions and get involved in the club activities, but this is not essential for all roles, although we would ensure that you were introduced to club members and familiarised with the game of boccia and how the club works.

Areas where you could support us include collecting subs and taking the register; banking money; publicity and social media; managing the court bookings; fundraising; grant applications; co-ordinating coaches and volunteers; updating policy documents; managing memberships; arranging league fixtures or social events.  We would discuss where your strengths and interests lie and support you to pick up appropriate admin tasks at a pace that works for everyone.  It might be beneficial to spend some time at club sessions first getting to know everyone and joining in with a few games.

There is scope to get as fully involved with the club as you like, including training in First Aid, Safeguarding or as a Boccia Official; representing the club at community and school sports events and boccia competitions; becoming more involved with the club sessions and side of the club (see related advert for Boccia Assistant volunteering roles).
