Once again Boccia England was very well represented at the recent BISFed Boccia World Open 2019 in Povoa de Varzim, Portugal, with a host of different officials undertaking a variety of roles or attending training courses.

Sandra King undertook the role of Technical Delegate, overseeing the competition and ensuring that it ran within the rules and ethos of the international governing body BISFed. Cassandra Turk attended as an international referee, she was also asked to undertake peer assessments as part of the monitoring and development of all international referees. Our Volunteer Classifiers Neil Hinde and Rochelle Alexander both attended a Classifiers course and we would like to say a huge well done to Jan Mulligan and Lauren Kianchehr, who both successfully passed their International Referees course and were also officiating during the event.

Also, in attendance was our Boccia England CEO Chris Ratcliffe and Board Member Liz Moulam, along with English player Beth Moulam.

Well done to English athletes for achieving some fantastic results as part of the Boccia UK team, David Smith once again won Gold in the BC1 individual event and maintains his World No.1 ranking spot. Louis Saunders came fourth in the BC4 individual event, beating top-ranked player Samuel Andrecjik but succumbing to fellow Brit Stephen McGuire in the Bronze play-off. Other English athletes in attendance were Evie Edwards, Will Hipwell and Jess Hunter.
