The UK home nations wishes to update all athletes about the latest classification updates from World Boccia.

World Boccia released the new Boccia Classification Rules 5th Edition in October 2021 which can be accessed in full here: https://www.worldboccia.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Boccia-Classification-Rules-5th-Edition-September-2021287.pdf.  The rules update is part of the 4 year cycle review and includes changes in the BC4 profile (especially rule 51.2.4 including muscle strength of Upper limbs, Lower limbs and trunk). World Boccia plan to reclassify all BC4 athletes with a confirmed international status during 2022.  BC4 athletes with the possibility of having functional abdominal, back and Lower Limb muscles will be prioritised and reclassified first.

The UK home nations, including ourselves Boccia England plan to complete a similar review process with all nationally confirmed BC4 athletes from summer 2022 onwards and this process is expected to take at least 1 boccia season to complete.  Once a classification appointment linked to a competition is allocated, athletes will be asked to provide a medical diagnosis form not older than 3 months from the date of the appointment.
