James Clowes, BC2, is a member of Scorpions Academy and the England Performance Group (EPG). Recently James was awarded University Colours from Solent University for his Boccia achievements during his time studying there.

We spoke to James to find out his thoughts and feelings on his fantastic achievement.

What does it mean to you to be recognised in this way?

It has been and is a great honour to represent Solent University in the sport I love. Therefore, to achieve my University Colours for Boccia is an amazing privilege.

How/ when did you find out?

Due to the circumstances this year, the traditional format of the Solent Sports Awards evening was cancelled and therefore the University announced several winners each day. I saw the announcement on the University social media pages.

How has Solent supported you on your journey?

Solent University has hugely supported and encouraged me to continue my boccia journey alongside my undergraduate and postgraduate studies and as an alumnus. Being a part of the High-Performance Athlete scheme allowed me access to a wide range of different services, including Strengthening and Conditioning, Physiotherapy and Lifestyle management in addition to the amazing Sports Complex facilities, with marked Boccia courts.  It is an honour to know that I helped set up the Team Solent Boccia club, of which I am still a member and how it continues to go from strength to strength each year.
