New data protection legislation is coming into force on 25 May 2018.

At Boccia England we are busy ensuring that we can demonstrate our compliance by updating our privacy statements, records and policies and ensuring we have a communication plan in place to inform you of what data we hold on you and what we do with it. We will be providing you with monthly updates on GDPR, what action we are taking and processes which will change as a result. This month we are providing an introduction to GDPR and what the new rules are about.

GDPR is condensed into 6 Principles.

Data must be:

  1. Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent way. Extensive information to be provided in a clear and concise way at every point of data collection.
  2. Processed for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner incompatible with these purposes.
    - Consent must be obtained every time we collect an individual’s data or
    - Processing is required to perform a contract.
    - Processing is required to fulfill a legal obligation.
    - Processing is required in the individual’s or public’s interest.
    - Processing is required for the legitimate interests of BE.
    3. Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary for the purpose it’s being collected. We cannot re-use data for another purpose.
    4. Accurate and kept up-to-date; inaccurate data should be updated or erased.
    5. Kept for no longer than is necessary (in a form that makes an individual identifiable). Data should be deleted if not needed any more OR anonymised.
    6. Processed in a way that ensures appropriate security including protection against unlawful or unauthorised processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage.

Boccia England must also be able to demonstrate compliance and is fully accountable for any breaches of these principles.

We would like to reassure all of our members that we are confident in our compliance of GDPR and we do not want you to worry about what we do with your data. Your privacy and confidentiality is important to us and we will continue to act with integrity when collecting and processing your data.

Further updates will be provided to you in a special newsletter next month.
